Increase of non-resident additional tax rate

Context:

As mentioned in a previous PTX headline(*), as from income year 2004, the King is authorised to increase the resident local tax rate for the purpose of determining the withholding tax and the non-resident additional income tax rate (local tax equivalent) up to 7% by a Decree of the Council of Ministers.

The news:

Last Friday the Council of Ministers issued a press release(**) announcing that the non-resident additional income tax rate will increase from 6,7% to 7% of the total income tax payable for the income of 2004.

Besides this, the local tax rate included in the withholding tax for resident taxpayer will also be increased to 7% to better match the reality of the various local tax rates, without changing the actual rates which differ from municipality to municipality.

Please note however that the above changes must be confirmed by Royal Decree and have to be published.
