The salary split theory for Belgian residents
Social security impact


As soon as an employee performs cross-border professional activities, his social security status may change. The key question is whether the employee will remain subject to the Belgian social security scheme for all his activities (i.e. the social security scheme of the home country) or whether he will be confronted with a foreign system for the part of his activity exercised in another country.


activities exercised in Belgium and in a member state of the EU or the EEA
activities performed in Belgium and in a country with which Belgium has a bilateral social security treaty
activities performed in Belgium and in a country with which Belgium has no bilateral social security treaty
